Aug 29,  · "Exorcising Ghosts" is the last compilation, covering their last three albums. While not comprehensive, this is the most cohesive of the sampler collections. Their early sound was much m ore rock/funk oriented, compare to here. This album is the icy cool, synth side.

The first of several compilation albums released after Japan’s breakup, Exorcising Ghosts is difficult to label as anything in particular; it is not a greatest hits, singles collection or B-sides.

That all said, though, if one needs to have a useful enough starting point for what made Japan so great, Exorcising Ghosts is a reasonable way to start. The emphasis is entirely on the moody, melancholic but energetic phase of Japan's career -- there's nothing earlier than a couple of cuts from Quiet Life, and any hint of the band's trash glam.

In order to have all the officially released Japan material, you NEED to buy the compilation albums "Assemblage", "In Vogue", and "Exorcising Ghosts". That isn't to say this isn't a great and cohesive album on its own merit! "Exorcising Ghosts" is the last compilation, covering their last three albums/5(45).
