The Alice Cooper band were famous for elaborate packaging of their vinyl records and Muscle of Love was no exception. The original version of this album came in a cardboard 'Pizza box' with a sleeve featuring the band dressed as sailors on shore leave inside.

    Highly underrated album from the original Alice Cooper Band. It's only crime was having to follow the group's masterpiece - Billion Dollar Babies - from which it suffered critical comparison. On it's own, Muscle of Love is another exciting and creative output that fits in well with the band's amazing string of releases stretching from Love It /5(15).

    The last album featuring the original Alice Cooper group, "Muscle of Love" is a nice balance of gritty, raw era Alice mixed with a bit of showy material. A good but not outstanding opener in "Big Apple Dreamin'" (great strings and keyboards); horn-heavy, flashy glam-rock numbers like "Never Been Sold Before" and the rejected James Bond theme "Man With The Golden Gun".

    At this point everything Alice Cooper puts out sounds very similar. Muscle Of Love sounds a great deal like Billion Dollar Babies which sounded a great deal like School's Out which sounded like the album before that, etc. This is to say, a great deal of time and effort goes into the production, the musicianship, the packaging and the concepts but most of the melodies sound exactly like the.

    Coming off such conceptual, theatrical, sleazy hard rock records as the massively successful School's Out () and Billion Dollar Babies (), the Alice Cooper group decided that their next release would be more along the lines of their earlier, more straightforward work (à la Love It to Death).While Muscle of Love was a gold-certified Top Ten success, it performed below expectations.
